A 20 mile, multi-use trail being developed through the Chisago Lakes Area that provides a safe route for recreation and alternative transportation, while interpreting and celebrating the Swedish Immigrant History of Chisago County. Chisago County was the destination and new world home for many of the Swedes who immigrated to Minnesota in the 1800’s. Several segments from the current master plan have been completed with connections between them planned for construction in 2018 and future years.
This trail when complete will connect Wyoming to Taylors Falls via Chisago City, Lindstrom, Center City and Shafer, utilizing an abandoned railway corridor that parallels Highway 8 approximately 1/4 mile to the north.
The Chisago County Parks and Trails Foundation, with communities across the county and Chisago County Board have embraced this project as a priority. The Chisago County Park and Trails Foundation is a non-profit organization with the mission to further the establishment, development, and enhancement of parks and trails within Chisago County and to encourage their wise use and protection.
With cooperation and courtesy, multi-use trails can work for everyone. Trail Rules will be enforced! Report trail conflicts or violations to County Parks Management by calling 651-674-2345. For a more immediate response call the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office at 651-257-4100. Dial 911 for emergencies.
